This six storey Victorian warehouse building in Clerkenwell was refurbished to accommodate a photographic processing laboratory. The design approach was to express the operations within the building, enabling clients to see the progress of their film and photos. A new roof extension houses a daylight studio, the first to be built in London since Edwardian times. There are options for north light, direct sunlight or complete black out. The studio is used for functions as well as photography.
The building now houses fashion designer Alexander McQueen’s studio and offices. The project was awarded a Civic Trust Commendation in 1996.
